Report Discrimination, School Bullying, and Hate Crimes

Discrimination

Homophobia, stigma (negative and unfair beliefs), and discrimination (unfairly treating a person or group of people) against LGBTI+ people still exists in the United States and can negatively affect the health and well-being of the community.  Kentucky Equality Federation acts as a "buffer" between minority communities and the police; we are also campaigning for better resources to address hate crimes. All anybody is trying to do is live their lives and be given the service, be treated with respect as anyone else is treated. All we want is equality.

Hate Crime

Kentucky Equality Federation acts as a "buffer" between minority communities and the police; we are also campaigning for better resources to address hate crimes. It's a sad fact but many people living with homophobic hate crime are so used to it that they fear that they will not be taken seriously if they report it. Some of us have had bad experiences in reporting incidents, others fear being outed or reprisals from their perpetrators. However, unless people do report hate crimes, there will be no true record of the extent of the problem, and nothing will be done to address the problem.

School Bullying

The academic consequences of school bullying are severe, not to mention the mental and physical well-being of targeted students and bystanders alike. Bullying is not a new phenomenon, of course, but neither is it an unalterable fact of childhood. School-wide anti-bullying projects, involving parents and non-teaching staff along with teachers and student leaders have been shown to reduce harassment by as much as fifty percent. - Safe Schools Coalition The bottom line is ... you deserve to be able to be yourself, without having to face verbal or physical violence.  You deserve to be able to get an education without having to lie about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender or about having gay friends or family members, or believing in civil rights for gay people. No matter how alone you may sometimes feel, you deserve help and support.
